How to Clean Soap Scum from Your Shower Doors

Glass shower doors add style and beauty to any bathroom. But if you don’t maintain and clean them regularly, eventually they can build up a film of unsightly soap scum.

Soap scum will build up more quickly if you have hard water, which also can cause hard water deposits to form. Even industrial strength glass cleaner will have a hard time keeping up with these types of tough films.

Removing Soap Scum

Fortunately, removing soap scum from your shower doors is simple. And it requires only a few simple ingredients you probably already have lying around your house.

All you need to keep your glass shower doors looking as clear and clean as the day they were installed is:

8 oz. (1 cup) of warm vinegar

8 oz. (1 cup) of Dawn dish washing detergent

Mixing Your Solution

What you do is put the vinegar in a microwave safe bowl and microwave it only high for about one minute to get it warm. Meanwhile, pour the Dawn into a clean spray bottle.

When the vinegar is ready, add it to the spray bottle with the Dawn. Screw the lid on and shake it up. Now you are ready to attack the roughest soap scum stains on your glass shower doors.

Wiping Down the Glass Shower Doors

Spray the Dawn and vinegar solution onto the glass and scrub it with a sponge. You don’t have to scrub very hard or for very long before the soap scum starts to come off.

Keep a bucket of clean water nearby so you can wipe off the soap suds. There’s quite a bit of Dawn in the solution, so be prepared for lots and lots of soap bubbles.

When you are through cleaning your glass shower doors, there may be a few residual streaks. These can be wiped away simply with a little glass cleaner and some paper towels.

Now your shower doors will look as good as new!
